My son went to this daycare from the age of 2 years until he was 4 years old, and about to go to Kindergarten. He received only the best care and education at this center. My son entered kindergarten already receiving the kindergarten curriculum from his teacher at Helen Sumner Daycare-Mrs. Damiana. He was reading at a 3rd and 4th grade level. He was way ahead of the game. When we had trouble with potty training, Mrs. Damiana said she would help. Within a week of her intervention my son was potty trained. Mrs. Damiana promised to have my son reading by March when he was just three years old. She made this promise around Christmas and new years. And low and behold, my son was reading just three months later! There is a strong commitment to education, and teaching important foundations for learning. I never worried about my sons care, or that he was being mistreated. I trusted Mrs. Damiana, and still do. I have referred other parents to this center. My neighbors son goes to this center currently, a college friend sends her son, and the list can go on. I am sad to see a negative defaming post on here about this center, because I know without a doubt that it is not true. It is heart-wrenching to know that one person can just write something negative and it put a dark cloud over such an amazing environment for children. I without hesitation recommend this center to families, as I have been doing for years now, and will continue to do so.
This is by the far the best daycare establishment I have ever experienced for my child. My son went to this daycare ever since he was an infant until he was 5. He loves going to this daycare so much that up to this day, he still goes there once in awhile when his school is closed. Ms. Damiana has established a path for my son to excel in his studies. He was reading at 4 years old. Ms. Damiana has provided my son with the tools that enabled him to be advanced in all of his curriculum at school. I cannot say enough good things about how this daycare and Ms. Damiana has provided for my son.
My children attended Helen's daycare at the greenbelt location from 3 months until the age of 5. I without a doubt recommend this establishment to anyone who is looking for a family oriented daycare. They are caring, nurturing and very supportive. Ms Damiana still attends all of my kids birthday parties and they still have a very close relationship with her. They are now 8 and 6 years old. They still go to see her every summer break. The education foundation received at the institution is by far superior to what is expected from a daycare. My kids excel in school currently because of the foundation they received at Helen's daycare.
Please do not take your children here. This woman has a facility in Bowie, MD that should not be operating. She uses the Greenbelt, MD location to to attract parents to her Bowie, MD location. She abused my child. My daughter came home with a long mark under her eye, and I asked her what happen? She told me Ms. Sumner used a whip to hit her in the face. She was adamant and would not stray or budge from details of the incident. I believed her. Later, I confirmed from another child that she does have a brown whip that she calls brownie. Parents, beware. Too much of this going on today.
