Description: 43rd Street Kids Preschool, Inc. is a private, non-profit, parent cooperative preschool, which is licensed by New York City. The school provides programs for children ages 9 months to 5 years and welcomes children of all races, religions, creeds and ethnic backgrounds, and practices non-discriminatory hiring practices. The school was founded in 1981 by a group of parents. At that time, it was sponsored by the Manhattan Plaza Family Civic Association. Today it is an independent organization but continues to operate as a parent cooperative. A staff of professional teachers develops the curriculum and makes educational decisions under the guidance of the director. A school administrator is available to assist parents. A board of directors comprised of parents of currently enrolled children, and the director, is responsible for policy making. Each family has a vote on the policy issues which are presented at the general membership meetings. Parental involvement is a vital element of the school. This
involvement allows us to provide a rich, stimulating program at a reasonable cost and helps to create the warm, family atmosphere which is so crucial to the children's sense of well being as they take their first steps towards independence.
