Our philosophy is to promote a quality and caring atmosphere for infants, toddlers and preschool children where children can feel free to explore and learn about their environment. Pumpkin Patch is committed to provide a quality, developmentally appropriate, and educational/recreational program. We feel that these standards are important to a child's development. The staff of Pumpkin Patch respects each child as an individual, and seeks to foster a positive self image and encourages independence, which the Pumpkin Patch staff feels is a key social skill that aids in problem solving. Hence, there is a stress on independence, which will allow the children to function more effectively in a social/academic atmosphere.

This center is not as great as it seems. I worked there and recently left. From a staff perspective, I can say this is not where you want to send your child. Many staff members are unhappy here, which leads to reduced quality in care at work (teachers would rather socialize than play with children; there is no incentive to interact.) Teacher's unhappiness leads to lots of turnover, which is not good for the children as they do not get an opportunity to attach and develop a relationship with one or a few close caregivers. When one teacher quits, the director hires five new people, and will work with part time workers schedules over full time, leaving the full time staff with 30-35 hours a week, which then causes them to be unhappy and leave.. basically its a bad, never ending cycle. The center director is also the owner, and since she owns the place, conveniently on an occasion "forgets" that there are licensing rules above her own wants or rules. I advice all parents to go on http://ocfs.ny.gov/main/childcare/daycare_regs.asp and do a program search for Pumpkin Patch and read their past violations; any center can slip and get a few non-critical violations, but you know its not a good place to be when there are repeat violations for the same infractions.
