I missed a call from the director/owner, Kim, at 2:50 PM and returned it at 2:51 PM. She was immediately rude, saying: “She texted me, I needed to come get my daughter, she had a fever.” I explained I hadn’t seen her text from 2:15 PM and called as soon as I noticed the missed call. If your child needs to be picked up for something urgent, you’d expect a phone call right away — not a single text message that can be easily missed.
When I arrived, Kim started yelling at me: “Why did it take an hour and 40 minutes to come get your sick child? Where were you? What were you doing?” I explained that I only saw her missed call at 2:50 PM and called right back, and that I was at a job interview and live nearly 40 minutes away. She then told me, “If it takes this long again, she isn’t to come back.” For the record, when I got home I took my daughter’s temperature — it was completely normal.
When I entered the building, her backpack and belongings were scattered on the floor in the front, and my daughter was left alone in another hallway.
From the start, this daycare was not my first choice, but being new to the area I needed care so I could work. Almost every drop-off, I’d see a child crying in the corner without any comfort from the teacher. When my daughter would cry or try to run out, the teacher wouldn’t comfort her either — she seemed completely disengaged. I once saw a toddler ask the teacher for help with her coat, and the teacher refused, saying, “It’s a basic life skill. You need to do it yourself.” We’re talking about toddlers here, not school-aged kids.
Around Christmas, another teacher told me she wished they had an “Elf on the Shelf” with a note saying “No talking all day,” so she wouldn’t have to hear the kids talking and crying.
In my experience, most of the staff here do not genuinely care about the children — especially Kim.
If you are looking for childcare, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere. It’s not worth the risk.
I am the owner of Kids on Maple St. I feel like I must respond the to review written by Marsha Wallace. It is terribly unfair that anyone can simply write a bad review! This person has never stepped foot in my center. She is the family member of a previous disgruntled employee. Each complaint made here has been unfairly and inaccurately depicted. Please contact me at my center if you are interested in more information about this review.
I would not recommend this place to anyone in need of childcare. Outbreaks of sicknesses are ignored by the owner and employees are told to still bring their children even when contagious. Children are getting injured, kids who are really hurting other kids face no consequences and they has been talk of mold in the sinks in the classrooms. The employees aren’t allowed to do anything because the owner will just brush it under the rug and say it’s fine
Best day care ever! They combine the best of daycare center with a feel of in-home care. The teachers love the kids as though they were their own and are supportive of parents. My child LOVED going there. We have since moved and have struggled to find a place that even is close in quality of care and friendliness. I study human development on a gradschool level and must say that that I am impressed with the age-appropriate programs at KOMS. If I could, I would put my daughter back into this daycare in a heartbeat, because we both miss them very day.
This place is not worth your money, or your worries. Spend your money on childcare elsewhere in Abilene. From being employed there to having child enrolled is not healthy for any individual involved. It has turnovers frequently, and sadly the director continues to stay. She will not resolve your problems nor concerns..be prepared to deal with someone is not there to care for your childs well-being.
